CEDAR RAPIDS - Two Cedar Rapids men face weapons charges for an incident alleged to have occurred Tuesday morning.
According to the Linn County Attorney's Office and Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, officers were called to the area of Park Avenue and 17th Street SE around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday for a report of suspects using and displaying firearms in a threatening manner and fleeing in a vehicle.
Authorities said the suspect vehicle was stopped at Kum & Go, 1420 Mount Vernon Road SE, a short time later. Located with the vehicle were 19-year-old Wonyae S. Black and 20-year-old Maurice A. Johnson. Police said they also found two handguns in the vehicle.
Black and Johnson were arrested and have been charged with carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Buelow said Black also had an active warrant for an incident alleged to have occurred last September. On Sept. 4, 2016, police responded to the 800 block of O Avenue NW for a woman who said she was assaulted by Black. The woman told police she and Black got into a fight on social media and he came to her home. After an argument, Black allegedly attacked the woman.
For that incident, Black also faces a charge of assault with injury.
