CEDAR RAPIDS - Police said a 71-year-old woman was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the Chevrolet Silverado she was driving hit an electrical pole and crashed into a Cedar Rapids house Tuesday morning.
Police and firefighters responded to Balsam Drive and Wilson Avenue SW at 9:40 a.m. for the single-vehicle crash, according to Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow. The truck left the roadway and eventually came to rest on the front stoop of the home, which had moderate damage to the cinder block foundation and front door, Buelow said.
The pole was severed completely at the base and was dangling by the utility wires, Buelow added. Wilson Avenue was closed for four to five hours for the crash and while Alliant Energy employees repaired the pole.
The driver, who was not identified by police, had a medical emergency and was conscious when authorities arrived on the scene, Buelow said.
