Three killed in Iowa County crash

MARENGO - Three people were killed and three were injured in a two-vehicle crash south of Marengo on Thursday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Renee M. Jones, 40, of Williamsburg was northbound on M Avenue at 6:41 p.m. Thursday. Authorities said Jones' SUV went off the shoulder, Jones overcorrected and crossed the centerline, colliding with a southbound SUV driven by 44-year-old Kimberly A. Stevenson of Marengo.

Jones' SUV entered the west ditch, rolled and came to rest on the driver's side. Stevenson's SUV came to rest in the northbound lanes.

The state patrol said 42-year-old Marilyn A. Coon, 14-year-old Hailey Cruise and 11-year-old Cherokee M. Niemann were killed in the crash. They are all from Williamsburg. The two drivers and 9-year-old Lana Coon were injured in the crash. Jones and Lana Coon were airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Stevenson was taken via ambulance to the Marengo Hospital.

The extent of their injuries is unknown.

The crash remains under investigation.
