Three Iowa City police chief finalists to meet public

IOWA CITY - The public will get the opportunity next week to meet the three finalists for Iowa City police chief.
Iowa City officials will be host to a meet-and-greet in the assembly room of the Senior Center, 28 S. Linn St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10.
After introductions, the public may speak with the candidates and offer feedback to City Manager Geoff Fruin.
The three finalists:

Capt. Rich Austin of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Austin joined the department in 1993 and has served on patrol, with field services and in internal affairs. He has a master's degree in public education, music performance, criminal justice and Christian education, and is working toward a doctorate in public administration.

Iowa City Police Capt. Troy Kelsay. He has been with the department since 1991. He has served on patrol, as the department's public information officer, as a watch commander and captain of field operations. Earlier this year, Kelsay was interim police chief. He has a bachelor of science degree from the University of Iowa.

Altoona Police Chief Jody Matherly. He has been police chief in Altoona since 2012. Before that, he was police chief in Grinnell from 2003 to 2012. Matherly worked for the police department in Flint, Mich., from 1987 to 2003.
