IOWA CITY - Three Iowa City residents face burglary charges for breaking into the Sheraton Inn and stealing $4,000 worth of property from guest rooms.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, on Sept. 13, 2014 around 6:30 p.m., 23-year-old Ashley N. Scharf, 27-year-old Rashad L. Lee and 52-year-old Dwaine A. Toran entered the Sheraton Inn. Police said Scharf acted as a lookout as Lee and Toran broke into a housekeeping office and stole a section key to the seventh floor.
Police said all three suspects went to the seventh floor where Scharf acted as a look out as the men entered four rooms and stole at least $4,000 worth of property from three of the rooms.
Lee is seen on video entering the housekeeping office and leaving the hotel with a red backpack that had been reported stolen, police said. According to police, Lee pawned some of the stolen items at pawnshops in Iowa City and Davenport.
Scharf accompanied Toran to a pawnshop in Iowa City on two occasions when stolen items were pawned. Police said she admitted to her and the other men's involvement in the burglary. Lee also admitted to their actions, police said.
All three suspects face charges of third-degree burglary, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
