Suspect in Marion stabbing arrested in Dubuque

MARION - The suspect in last week's stabbing in Marion has been captured.
The U.S. Marshals office reported that they arrested 42-year-old Sean Hemphill Monday in Dubuque. Hemphill was wanted in connection with Wednesday's stabbing, as well as charges for failure to register as a sex offender.
Marion police responded to a report of a stabbing at 9:48 a.m. March 9 at 2055 Fifth Ave., No. 2. Police said officers found a 36-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. He was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Hemphill was identified as the suspect in the stabbing. He fled before the officers' arrival and prompted lockdowns at the Marion Independent School District and St. Joseph High School.
The U.S. Marshals office immediately began searching for Hemphill after the stabbing. According to a news release from the marshals office, authorities tracked him throughout Eastern Iowa to a residence in Dubuque.
Working with the Dubuque Police Department, marshals took Hemphill into custody in the 700 block of Main Street in Dubuque. He will be transported to the Linn County Jail and face charges related to the stabbing, as well as failing to register as a sex offender.
