Suspect caught during Cedar Rapids burglary

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man was caught leaving the scene of a burglary Wednesday morning.
Cedar Rapids police officers were called to a 19th Street NW residence at 11:45 a.m. for a report of a burglary in progress. Police said as they were arriving on the scene, 48-year-old Anthony C. Backstrom was leaving the residence. He was arrested for second-degree burglary, second-degree theft, possession of burglar's tools and on a warrant for assault causing bodily injury - domestic abuse.
City public safety spokesman Greg Buelow credited a caller in the neighborhood who called in the suspicious activity, allowing officers to quickly respond and stop the burglary while it was still in progress.
