CEDAR RAPIDS - A 16-year-old female student deployed a stun gun on a 15-year-old male student Thursday morning at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, according to police.
Cedar Rapids police responded to a call about two students fighting inside the high school, 1243 20th St. SW, at 9 a.m., said Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow.
The female student used a stun gun on the male student during the fight, he said, adding neither student was seriously injured.
The female student was charged with assault while carrying a dangerous weapon and with carrying a concealed weapon, both aggravated misdemeanors, Buelow said.
The male student was charged with disorderly conduct and interference with official acts, both simple misdemeanors.
Iowa law does not allow the release of juveniles' names unless they are charged with forcible felonies.
In response to a request for comment from The Gazette, the Cedar Rapids Community District released a statement referencing its anti-bullying and harassment policy.
'While we can't comment about individual students or situations, the Cedar Rapids Community School District takes all reports of bullying and harassment seriously,” a statement from Deputy Superintendent Mary Ellen Maske reads. 'Adhering to District policy, procedure, and regulations in relation to anti-bullying and harassment is a priority. Every school has bullying and harassment investigators that are trained annually. Investigations begin upon report of bullying and harassment behavior to district staff.”
