OXFORD - An Oxford woman is accused of breaking a statue inside a church, then leaving most of her clothes on it.
According to a Johnson County Sheriff's Office criminal complaint, sometime between midnight and 4 a.m. March 15, 24-year-old Tonya C. Bulten entered St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford. Police said while Bulten was in the church, she knocked over a statue of Saint Anthony holding an infant, breaking it.
The complaints state that Bulten pulled a rug over the statue. She also left her underwear, tights, skirt and identification at the scene.
Police said witnesses reported seeing Bulten at the church wearing only a shirt. Those witnesses also said they saw her leaving a bar earlier in a state of intoxication.
Bulten was arrested and faces one count of third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor.
