Second man arrested in Cedar Rapids meth lab explosion

CEDAR RAPIDS — A second man has been arrested in connection with an explosion at a Cedar Rapids residence caused by a meth lab.
Cedar Rapids police were called to an explosion and house fire at 1446 Golfview Dr. NE on Jan. 14. Responding officers discovered the remnants of a meth lab in the garage of the home. They returned with a search warrant and discovered drug paraphernalia and meth precursors, including ethyl ether, pseudoephedrine and ammonia nitrate.
Police also found 32-year-old David C. Voelkel to be in possession of meth, as well as precursors. Voelkel has been arrested and faces charges of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver meth, first-degree arson, two counts of possession of a precursor with intent to manufacture and two counts of possession of a precursor.
Voelkel has prior convictions of delivery of crack cocaine and possession of precursors, according to the criminal complaint.
Previously arrested in the case was 33-year-old Shane E. Keller of Marion. Keller has been charged with first-degree arson, second-degree burglary, manufacturing meth and three counts of possession of a precursor with the intent to manufacture.
Neither of the men live in the home where the fire occurred.
