Registration open for CRPD Youth Academy

CEDAR RAPID - Area children interested in learning more about law enforcement can now sign up for the 2017 Cedar Rapids Police Department Youth Academy.
The academy, offered to students entering kindergarten through eighth grade, takes place at the police department, 505 First St. SW. Participants will get a tour of the station and learn about different police topics such as uniforms, K-9s, the special response team, crime scene unit and physical training.
The $25, two-day course is from 9 a.m. to noon and broken down by grades.
- June 14-15 for students entering sixth through eighth grades.
- June 21-22 for students entering fourth or fifth grades.
- June 28-29 for students entering second or third grades.
- July 12-13 for students entering kindergarten or first grade.
Early registration is recommended and preference will be given to students who have not previously attended the youth academy. For more information or to register, call (319) 286-5434.
