CEDAR RAPIDS - Registration is open for the Cedar Rapids Police Department's Citizens Police Academy.
The 10-week academy starts on Wednesday, Sept. 13, and meets for three hours every Wednesday. Topics include use of force, defensive tactics, narcotics enforcement and investigations.
Police department officials said the academy is not designed to train future police officers, but to enhance the public's understanding of the department. Participants must be age 18 or older and will be subject to a background check before acceptance.
Cost is $30 and registration is required.
Those wishing to attend the academy should contact the Cedar Rapids Police Department at (319) 286-5439 or send email to c.hamblin@cedar-rapids.org. A brochure and application can also be downloaded at cedar-rapids.org/police under 'Volunteer Opportunities.”
