Raymond man charged with vehicular homicide

WATERLOO - A Raymond man has been charged with vehicular homicide for a fatal Oct. 25 crash in the Washburn area.

According to the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office, on Oct. 25, the sheriff's office responded to a crash in the 6600 block of La Porte Road in the Washburn area. Police said Joshua W. Dunt, 29, of Raymond, had been southbound, crossed the centerline and hit a northbound vehicle. The northbound vehicle was operated by Warren L. Van Wie, 20, of Cedar Falls. Leah McGrane, 18, of Cedar Falls, was a passenger with Van Wie.

Van Wie and McGrane were taken to Covenant Medical Center, where Van Wie later died of his injuries, police said. Dunt was transported to Covenant with severe injuries and talker taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

When he was released from the hospital, Dunt was cited for driving left of center. On Nov. 21, authorities charged him with a probation violation and on Thursday, upon receiving toxicology results, the sheriff's office charged him with homicide by motor vehicle.

Dunt is currently in custody at the Black Hawk County Jail.
