Police say Iowa City man had sex with 12-year-old

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man is accused of having sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl.

According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, 21-year-old Nathan D.B. Lade met the 12-year-old on a social media site. In January, Lade picked up the girl near her house, took her back to his home and had sexual contact with him, police said.

Police said the victim told Lade she was only 12 years old.

The girl had medical treatment and suffered injuries consistent with a sex act she described engaging in with Lade, police said. After their encounter, Lade continued to chat with the victim and sent her messages that discussed having sex with her.

Lade admitted to having sex with the girl, but told police he thought she was older, according to the criminal complaint. He has been arrested and faces one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony.
