Police release name of man killed in Cedar Rapids motorcycle crash

CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids police have identified the man who died in a motorcycle crash last week.
According to police, Richie R. Rogers, 23, of Cedar Rapids, was involved in the crash around 4:47 a.m. Nov. 3 near the intersection of E Avenue and 27th Street NE. Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said Monday that Rogers was operating a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle and was eastbound on 27th Street NE when he lost control near a walking trail in the 500 block, near Arthur Elementary School, and hit a tree.
According to his obituary, Rogers was a 2012 graduate of Louisa-Muscatine High School and a member of the Operating Engineering Local Union 234. He loved art, drawing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking and his interests included computers, videos, traveling, concerts and riding his motorcycle. Rogers loved to spend time with his dog, friends and family, his obituary said.
Funeral services for Rogers will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser St., Muscatine. Visitation takes place an hour before the funeral.
The crash remains under investigation.
