CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man awaiting trial on weapons charges - including attempted murder and first-degree robbery - now faces additional charges related to allegedly shooting at an occupied vehicle last week.
According to a Linn County Attorney's Office complaint, police were called to the area of A Avenue and 15th Street NE on June 24 for a shots fired called. There, police learned 18-year-old D'Montrey R. Redmond had shot a firearm at a vehicle that was occupied by another person.
Redmond has been charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent and carrying weapons.
According to court records, at the time Redmond was out on bond and awaiting trial on attempted murder, first-degree robbery, willful injury and intimidation with a dangerous weapon charges related to a January 27 incident in Cedar Rapids. In this incident, police say Redmond shot Alexander Ledvina during a drug deal. Redmond went with two others to buy marijuana from Ledvina, but when they met in the parking lot of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Redmond tried to rob Ledvina.
Ledvina told police he tried to drive away, but Redmond got in his car and shot at him. Ledvina crashed his car and Redvina and his associates ran away. Ledvina suffered gunshot wounds to his right forearm and right and left thighs, according to court documents.
Court records show Redmond was initially held on $15,000 cash bonds on the attempted murder and robbery charges. Those bonds were later increased to $100,000 on each count. After a hearing, Redmond's bonds were decreased and he was allowed to post a $30,000 surety bond on April 20.
Redmond is scheduled to go to trial on the attempted murder charge on Oct. 19. His bond for the recent charges has been set at $50,000 cash.
