Jan. 8, 2016 8:33 am
CORALVILLE — Police said a can of baked beans was used in a drunken assault Thursday.
According to Coralville police criminal complaints, officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue Place around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. There, officers encountered the victim on the floor of the residence, bleeding from a wound to his head.
Police said the victim — who is not named — and 57-year-old Leonard C. Seawood got into an argument that escalated into a physical fight. At some point during the bout, Seawood hit the victim in the head with a can of bacon and beans.
The victim complained of pain and also injured his shoulder, police said.
Seawood was read his rights and admitted to hitting the other man with a can of baked beans. Police said Seawood appeared to be intoxicated and had a blood alcohol content of .286 percent, according to a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and faces one count of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail; and public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail.
