May. 30, 2017 12:47 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids woman earned her second drunken driving arrest after leading police on a chase early Monday morning, according to authorities.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said an officer attempted to pull over Danielle M. Hogan, 38, around 12:46 a.m. Monday after noting she was speeding on J Street SW near the intersection with Second Street SW. Hogan's vehicle also appeared to have a brake light out, police said.
Police said rather than stopping, Hogan turned on to 18th Avenue SW and then Hamilton Street SW. She then turned into an alley, went south on Hamilton Street and then into another alley between Hamilton and Mallory streets.
'The vehicle was estimated to be traveling around 40 mph while making turns and traveling through the alleyways,” Buelow said.
Hogan then went east on 21st Street SW and turned north onto Bowling Street, hitting speeds of 65 mph, police said. Hogan ran a stop sign and continued to speed until pulling into a parking lot at 88 Second Ave. SW, where she resides, Buelow said.
Police said Hogan tried to get out and run, but she was captured near the apartment building. Hogan smelled strongly of alcohol, police said.
Hogan was arrested and has been charged with eluding and second-offense drunken driving. She was previously convicted of drunken driving in Buchanan County in 2009, according to court records.
