Overnight fire displaces Cedar Rapids residents

CEDAR RAPIDS - The occupants of a Cedar Rapids home were displaced Tuesday morning after an overnight house fire.
According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, crews were called to 1018 17th St. SW at 2:23 a.m. Tuesday for a report of smoke coming from the single-story residence. When firefighters arrived, they noticed smoke was coming from the eaves and interior of the home.
Two people and a dog living at the residence were able to make it safely out of the home, the fire department said. Firefighters searched the residence and discovered fire inside a wall. The fire was contained to the interior of the house.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross was called in to provide shelter to the occupants for the night.
