CEDAR RAPIDS — One person was seriously injured and another person is being questioned after a shooting early Saturday morning in northwest Cedar Rapids.
According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, deputies, the Atkins Fire Department and Area Ambulance personnel responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 1400 block of Sisley Grove Road NW. There, first responders found a 44-year-old man who was suffering from two gunshot wounds. A suspect in the shooting was apprehended at the residence and is being questioned by deputies.
The shooting victim was involved in the domestic call that prompted the police response, Sheriff Brian Gardner said. The shooting suspect was 'present' at the time of the disturbance, as were several others, Gardner said.
'We did interview some witnesses at the scene,' Gardner said. 'And, we did bring some people down to the office for questioning.'
Gardner said a search warrant is being executed at the home in conjunction with the investigation. A handgun believed to be used in the shooting was recovered.
The shooting victim was initially taken to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to for treatment for serious injuries. Gardner said the injuries were 'non-life-threatening.'
Detectives have not yet had an opportunity to interview the shooting victim, Gardner said around noon on Saturday.
The names of the people involved are being withheld while the sheriff's office completes their investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
