One dead in Washington house fire

WASHINGTON - One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a house fire in Washington Friday morning.

According to a Washington County news release, the county communications center received multiple reports of a house fire at 609 E. Washington St. at 4:20 a.m. Friday. The top level of the home was reported to be on fire and callers said someone was possibly inside the home, authorities said.

The Washington and Ainsworth fire departments and Washington County Ambulance responded to the fire. Authorities said one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time.

The State Fire Marshal's Office has been called to investigate the fire.
