One dead, four injured in Benton County crash involving a minivan

VAN HORNE - A Cedar Rapids resident was killed in a single vehicle crash in Benton County Thursday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, around 5:25 a.m. Thursday, 28-year-old Nabintu Baguma, of Cedar Rapids was driving on Highway 30 just west of 18th Avenue when they attempted to pass a semi. Authorities said Baguma met an oncoming car and swerved to avoid a collision. The Honda Odyssey Baguma was driving wound up in the south ditch. The minivan rolled and a passenger was thrown from the vehicle.

Authorities said 40-year-old Aziza Nikuze died in the crash. Olusina Oladip Coker, 46; Yaya Iddy, 43; Zephyre N. Kasigwa, 50; and Baguma - all of Cedar Rapids - were injured in the crash.
