Officials investigate Iowa City house fire

IOWA CITY - A house fire caused $15,000 in damages to an Iowa City home Thursday.
Iowa City firefighters were called to 716 Fairchild St. at 5:17 p.m. for a structure fire. Responding crews first encountered smoke coming from the roof peak of the residence. The lone resident of the home was outside when crews arrived, according to the fire department.
Crews entered through the rear of the home and encountered fire in the kitchen wall and attic space. It was brought under control within 21 minutes of firefighters arriving on the scene; however, crews remained at the home until 8:30 p.m. searching for additional fire and investigating the cause of the fire.
A total of 17 firefighters on three engines, one truck and one ladder truck responded to the fire. Off-duty firefighters were called back to staff stations and respond to other incidents, according to the fire department. Damage to the home was estimated at $15,000 and the cause remains under investigation.
The Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance and Mid-American Energy also responded to the fire. There were no injuries reported.
