North Liberty woman faces harassment charges for bogus eviction letters

May. 29, 2015 9:19 am
NORTH LIBERTY - A North Liberty woman is accused of mailing eviction letters to an Iowa City family, despite having no authority to do so.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, on May 26, the victims - residents of the Lake Ridge mobile home park in Iowa City - received certified letters at their home and place of employment from 67-year-old Jean M. Falk. Police said the letters were a notice of lease cancellation and demanded the family leave the mobile home park within 60 days or face trespass charges.
Police said one of the letters was also addressed to one of the victims' in-home day care, which Falk also sent to the Johnson County Department of Human Services office. Falk has made previous false allegations against members of the family in order to interfere with the child care business and harass them, police said.
Falk does not own Lake Ridge or have any authority over the tenants, police said.
'The sole purpose of the lease cancellation letter sent to the victim is to harass him and cause him undue hardship,” the criminal complaint reads.
Police said the victims feel threatened, annoyed and 'constantly stressed” by Falk's letters and actions.
Falk was arrested and faces three counts of third-degree harassment.
