North Liberty man faces vehicle burglary, forgery charges

CORALVILLE - A North Liberty man faces multiple vehicle burglary and forgery charges.
According to Coralville police criminal complaints, between April 18 and April 29, 22-year-old Jonathan M. Compau broke into multiple vehicles and stole items from inside, including checkbooks. Compau and another man were eventually located inside a pickup where multiple stolen items had been left.
Police said Compau forged a victim's signature on two checks from a checkbook he stole and wrote himself two checks for $250 each.
Compau admitted to breaking into multiple vehicles, stealing items and forging the two checks, police said. He was arrested and faces two counts of forgery, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison, and five counts of third-degree burglary of an unoccupied motor vehicle, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison.
