Dec. 4, 2015 9:12 am
IOWA CITY - A North Liberty man is accused of drunken driving and attempting to evade arrest.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, an officer attempted to pull over 21-year-old Jacob A. Noe around 2:20 a.m. Friday. Instead of stopping, police said Noe sped off, reaching speeds in excess of 80 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Police broke off the pursuit, but found Noe's vehicle abandoned at Ryersons Woods off Old Highway 218 south of Iowa City. Police gave commands to Noe to come out from the wooded area, but he refused. After a search, Noe was found and taken into custody.
Noe smelled strongly of alcohol, showed signs of intoxication and a preliminary breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content higher than .08 percent, police said. A blood sample was also collected.
Noe was arrested and faces charges of eluding while driving drunk, a Class D felony; drunken driving, a serious misdemeanor; and interference with official acts. If convicted of all offenses, Noe could spend more than six years in prison.
