Jun. 14, 2016 11:44 am
NEW ALBIN - A New Albin man drowned while fishing along the Mississippi River Monday, Allamakee County authorities said.
According to the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at the Army Road boat ramp east of New Albin at 2:19 p.m. Monday.
Authorities determined someone had been fishing from the dock, but a search of the area did not turn up anyone. The New Albin and Lansing fire and rescue departments were called in to search the river, authorities said.
The sheriff's office said the body of 46-year-old Peter C. Englund was found underwater near the dock at 4:47 p.m. Authorities believe he had been fishing from the dock and fell into the river.
Englund's death remains under investigation by the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office.
