LONE TREE - The Iowa State Patrol has released the name of the man killed in a two-vehicle crash near Lone Tree early Wednesday.
An Iowa State Patrol crash report states that Barthelemy Elson, 31, of Coralville was killed in the crash while Bahaiti Kasongo, 27, also of Coralville, and Eangano Mamona Hamisi, 35, of North Liberty, were injured.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of Highway 22 and Wapsi Avenue at 6:19 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities said one person was pronounced dead at the scene, one was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics via AirCare and another was transported by ground ambulance.
According to the crash report, Hamisi was the driver of the vehicle, with Kasongo and Elson as passengers. The vehicle they were in was stopped at the intersection of Wapsi Avenue and Highway 22. As Hamisi attempted to cross Highway 22, a semi trailer driven by Derek Kriegel, 28, of Chelsea, traveling east on the road hit the car broadside, sending the car careening into the south ditch, according to the report. The semi trailer came to rest on the shoulder of the road, according to the report.
The report listed Kasongo and Hamisi as using their seat belts, while Elson had not been using a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The roadway remained partially blocked for part of Wednesday morning as Johnson County Deputies and the Iowa State Patrol were on the scene investigating the crash.
