Muscatine woman, juvenile face meth charges after Johnson County traffic stop

JOHNSON COUNTY - A Muscatine woman and a juvenile face meth charges after their vehicle broke down on Interstate 80.
According to an Iowa State Patrol criminal complaint, a trooper responded to the 231 mile marker, just east of the Oxford exit, at 8:28 a.m. Saturday. Police said when the trooper approached the vehicle he found a woman in the driver's seat and a male passenger. Neither of the occupants had identification, according to the criminal complaint.
The woman identified herself as 21-year-old Ondrea Mawby and her passenger, who identified himself as a 17-year-old. Both said they were from Muscatine. The Gazette does not identify juveniles unless they are charged with a felony.
Police said a fifth of whiskey was on the floor of the car's passenger side.
The trooper ran the names and both licenses came back as suspended. Police said they eventually learned that Mawby was actually 21-year-old Amanda M. Thompson and that she had lied about her identity. Additionally, a check of Thompson's name showed she had a barred licenses and two warrants out of Muscatine County.
Police said neither Thompson nor the juvenile were the registered owners of the vehicle. The juvenile eventually admitted to taking the vehicle from Muscatine the night before after it had been abandoned for four days. He also told the trooper they had been at a party earlier that morning and that he had been drinking and smoking meth, police said. Meth was found on the passenger side floor board, which the juvenile admitted was his, according to the criminal complaint.
The vehicle was towed and inventoried. Troopers found a pipe with white residue in the glove box along with the juvenile's wallet. Also recovered from were several syringes, three scales, a mirror compact containing white residue and two pipes.
Police said Thompson admitted to using meth several times a day and showed the trooper where she injects the drug. Thompson's Social Security card and bank card were also recovered from the vehicle.
Thompson was arrested and faces charges of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and providing false information. The juvenile was cited into Juvenile Court for possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol under the legal age.
Charges are pending for operating a vehicle without the owner's consent, according to the criminal complaint.
