Planned Parenthood closes clinics - A wall in the Planned Parenthood Bettendorf clinic is lined with handwritten notes. They're from patients and supporters — thanking the clinic's staff for all the work they've done.
Some are colorful. Some are several paragraphs long. Others just simply read 'love your kindness' and 'thank you for serving women.' Read the full story, and see the full reactions and next steps related to the Planned Parenthood clinic closings here.
Trout Comeback - The reintroduction of trout would not have been possible without the efforts of landowners, producers and cooperators to go beyond their basic conservation practices, said Meyer, who coordinated the project that began in 2009.
Along with restoring a haven for the esteemed brookies, the project's reductions in bacteria and sediment put some of the affected streams on track for removal from the state's impaired waters list, Meyer said. Read about what this means for fishing and conservation here.
Shooting near Wal-Mart - Cedar Rapids police responded to a shots fired call around 8 p.m. tonight near a Wal-Mart on the SW side of Cedar Rapids at 29th Ave. SW and Edgewood Road SW.
Two men were found with gunshot wounds. Read the full story here.
Recreating History - In 1943, the Martin brothers — Paul, Loyd and Albert Jr. — posed for a photo in a pen at the Linn County Fair with their three hogs. The photo appeared on the pages of The Gazette and became a keepsake in the Martin family.
On Saturday, the three brothers returned to the fairgrounds in Central City — where this year's Linn County Fair wraps up Monday — for what turned out to be a picture perfect moment.
'It's been a long time,' said Loyd Martin, 89, of Marion.
See the recreation of the photo here.
Shelves in an exam room hold information for patients at Planned Parenthood of the Heartland's Quad Cities Health Center in Bettendorf on Monday, June 26, 2017. The Quad Cities clinic closed Friday due to state budget cuts targeting family planning facilities that offer abortion services. (Rebecca F. Miller/The Gazette)
