IOWA CITY - A Mississippi man faces multiple charges after a series of car burglaries on Thursday.
Iowa City police responded to Aldi's, 760 Ruppert Road, around 11:30 a.m. Thursday for a report of a man stealing cash out of a pickup truck. Police said the victim confronted the subject - later identified as 46-year-old John L. Miley - who fled in a white Chevrolet Suburban.
Police caught up to Miley at the BP gas station on Keokuk Street. The victim responded to the scene and identified Miley as the man who took the cash from his truck, police said.
An officer told Miley to place his hands behind his back. However, police said Miley ran away and made it a block before he fell or decided to lie on the ground. Miley continued to resist arrest and officers deployed a Taser to get him under control.
In addition to the Aldi's car burglary that prompted the original call, police said Miley committed an additional car burglary at Aldi's as well as one at the Super Kmart on Hollywood Boulevard. Coralville police said items found in Miley's vehicle were reported stolen from a vehicle in the Lowes parking lot in Coralville.
Miley now faces three counts of third-degree burglary and single counts of third-degree theft and interference with official acts.
