Marion man charged in Cedar Rapids break-ins

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Marion man is accused of burglarizing a van and a home Tuesday morning.
According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, around 8 a.m. Tuesday 33-year-old Ervin D. Duryee broke into a van parked on Third Avenue SW. Police said Duryee stole items from the van totaling $25.
Police said a subject witnessed Duryee breaking into the van and followed him as he went to a residence in the 500 block of Third Avenue SW and entered the home. The homeowner confronted Duryee, who then ran up the stairs of the home, hid in a bathroom and changed into a different coat, police said.
When officers arrived at the residence, they found Duryee still in the bathroom in the coat he had taken, police said.
Duryee was arrested and faces charges of second- and third-degree burglary.
