IOWA CITY - A homeless man is accused of assaulting a woman in her apartment.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 2 p.m. on Jan. 21, Charles A. Nuncio, 28, a transient, went to an apartment in the 2700 block of Wayne Avenue and asked the occupant to use her shower. Police said the woman let Nuncio use the shower, but then he refused to leave when asked.
The woman told police Nuncio attacked her on the couch and then moved her into the bathroom. He allegedly hit her head against the vanity, leaving a bruise and cracking the mirror. Police said when the woman tried to scream for help, Nuncio covered her nose and mouth, causing her to lose consciousness.
The woman told police when she woke up, Nuncio stepped on her and then fled the apartment. Police said the woman was hesitant to report the alleged assault because she was afraid Nuncio would come back and attack her again.
Nuncio was arrested and faces charges of assault with intent to commit serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor, and false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor. If convicted of both charges, Nuncio could spend up to three years in prison.
