Man gets third drunken driving arrest after fleeing from UI police

Jun. 22, 2016 9:11 am
IOWA CITY - A man racked up his third drunken driving arrest Monday morning after attempting to flee from police.
According to University of Iowa police criminal complaints, officers were dispatched to Cambria Court around 2:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a fight. As officers were pulling up to the scene of the fight, a man in a Cadillac was leaving. Police followed the Cadillac and made contact with the driver, who identified himself as Lee Ivy, a name officers would later learn was false.
Police said Ivy was slurring his words and denied being in a fight, but had a small cut on his lip. He was ordered to get out of his car, but the man instead fled at a high rate of speed from the officers.
Ivy was caught a short distance later, but not before he reached speeds of more than 25 mph over the speed limit, drove over curbs and through yards. Police said Ivy also got out of the car and ran. When he was caught, Ivy had the keys to the vehicle in his pocket, but denied driving or even being previously stopped by the officers.
Police said Ivy admitted to drinking vodka, had slurred speech and showed other signs of intoxication, including vomiting in the OWI processing room at the UI police department. He was initially determined to be too intoxicated to be taken to the jail and was admitted at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics under the name Lee Ivy.
After believing Ivy to be lying about his identity, officers confirmed his real name - Marvin Ivy, age 36 - through his finger prints. Police do not know where Ivy is from. After being discharged from the hospital, Ivy was taken to the Johnson County Jail where he faces charges of identity theft, providing false identification information, public intoxication, interference with official acts, eluding and third offense drunken driving.
