NORTH ENGLISH - A man suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol caused an elementary school to go on lockdown Friday morning.
According to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office, at 8:40 a.m. Friday, 28-year-old Coty R. Schwochow, no address, entered North English Elementary School and caused a disturbance. Authorities said Schwochow appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, claimed to have a knife and told staff he needed mental help.
School officials were able to convince Schwochow to leave the building and the school went into lockdown. Police said Schwochow was unable to re-enter the building.
Schwochow was arrested by the sheriff's office several blocks from the school. He has been committed for a mental evaluation and criminal charges are pending.
The case remains under investigation.
