Maine man leads Coralville police officer on chase on stolen motorcycle

CORALVILLE - A Maine man is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase on a stolen motorcycle.

According to Coralville police criminal complaints, officers were called to McGrath Hawkeye Harley-Davidson, 120 Westcor Dr., at 2:43 a.m. Monday for an alarm. The responding officer reported seeing a motorcycle leaving the business at a high rate of speed. Police said the officer pulled up alongside the driver - later identified as 19-year-old Justin P. Jackson, of Rockland, Maine - and saw he was wearing all black and had a mask covering his face. The motorcycle appeared to be new and had a Harley-Davidson placard still attached.

Police said Jackson sped away from the officer and led him on a chase on Highway 6 that went through Tiffin, Oxford, Homestead and into Iowa County. Jackson reached speeds of 100 mph in a 25 mph zone before eventually deciding to end the pursuit, police said.

The motorcycle, valued at $8,000, was confirmed stolen, police said. Jackson was also carrying a pry bar, which police believe was used to enter the business and steal the motorcycle.

Jackson was arrested and faces charges of second-degree theft and third-degree burglary, both Class D felonies; and eluding and possession of burglar's tools, both aggravated misdemeanors.
