NORTH LIBERTY - A Lone Tree man is accused of assaulting a woman while traveling from Coralville to North Liberty.
According to North Liberty police criminal complaints, a 911 caller reported around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday that a woman was being assaulted inside a vehicle. The assault began in Coralville and the caller followed the vehicle, providing dispatchers with location updates and license plate information. The caller discontinued the pursuit after the suspect vehicle turned into the Golfview Trailer Court in North Liberty, police said.
Police were able to locate the vehicle in a driveway in the 100 block of Golfview Court. An officer saw the alleged assailant, 27-year-old Jarrod A. Lumsdon, on the passenger side of the vehicle, grabbing the woman in a headlock, police said. Lumsdon and the woman were struggling and the woman appeared to be 'in distress,” police said.
Police said the man admitted to hitting the woman, who had dried blood in her nostril and was bleeding on her inner lip.
After Lumsdon was arrested, police found marijuana in a container in his pocket. Lumsdon was convicted of possession of a controlled substance in December 2006.
Lumsdon was arrested and charged with domestic assault causing injury or mental illness, possession of a controlled substance - second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in custody on a $26,500 cash or surety bond.
