Late night fire on Vermont St. SW, Cedar Rapids under investigation

CEDAR RAPIDS – A late night house fire remains under investigation in Cedar Rapids.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was called to 5623 Vermont St. SW at 10:42 p.m. Friday for a report of a house fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters entered the home and found the residence to be filled with smoke and 'moderate heat conditions.” Firefighters discovered a bedroom on fire in the basement of the home and quickly put out the flames.
Authorities said fire and water damage was limited to the bedroom, but the rest of the residence sustained smoke damage.
People were home at the time of the fire, but made it out safely. No one required medical treatment, the fire department said. The occupants have been displaced for the time being.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
