Juvenile injured after high-speed chase through Solon

Nov. 22, 2016 3:41 pm
SOLON - A juvenile was injured during a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a trooper attempted to pull over Jeffrey D. Rangel, Jr., 20, of Des Moines around 10:29 a.m. Tuesday for speeding on Interstate 80. Authorities said Rangel refused to stop and a chase ensued from Interstate 80 to Highway 1 north into Solon.
The state patrol said the trooper terminated the high-speed pursuit when they hit Solon, but Rangel continued driving recklessly through the community.
Troopers intercepted Rangel north of Solon on Highway 1 and the chase continued until Rangel lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the 5700 block of 160th Street.
A passenger in Rangel's vehicle, a juvenile from Waukee, was injured in the crash and taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics via ambulance, according to the state patrol.
