IOWA CITY - The Johnson County Sheriff's Office and Iowa City Police Department will participate in No Shave November to benefit area organizations and raise awareness.
For the month of November, deputies and officers will be allowed to refrain from shaving, a break from typical department policy. Donations raised by the sheriff's office during the month will go to Honor Flight of Cedar Rapids, a program the flies local veterans to Washington, D.C.
This is the third year the sheriff's office has raised funds for different organizations. Previous recipients include the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House.
Those who would like to donate can make checks payable to Eastern Iowa Honor Flight and put 'JCSO - NO SHAVE NOVEMBER” in the memo. Checks can be delivered to the sheriff's office or mailed to Lt. Good, P.O. Box 2540, Iowa City, Iowa, 52244.
The Iowa City Police Department is raising awareness for cancer. Two members of the department and a police chaplain are in various stages of cancer treatment. Officers are encouraged to donate money they would typicaly spend on shaving and grooming to cancer research and awareness. All of the donations raised by the police department during November will be given to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
