Johnson County deputy injured; inmate facing assault charge

IOWA CITY - A Johnson County Jail inmate is accused of assaulting a deputy.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were talking with 18-year-old Anthony Davis about an incident that had occurred in the cell block. Police said during the conversation, Davis punched a deputy in the face, causing an injury to his jaw. The deputy also hurt his hand while attempting to subdue Davis.
The deputy required treatment at the emergency room, the sheriff's office said.
Davis, who was in custody on a multitude of charges, now faces one count of assault causing injury to a peace officer, an aggravated misdemeanor.
