Johnson County agencies to conduct mass casualty training at airport

IOWA CITY - Area first responders will participate in mass casualty training on Wednesday.
Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Wilson said representatives from the Iowa City police and fire departments, Johnson County Ambulance and medical examiner's office, Salvation Army of Iowa City, CARE and AMT ambulance services, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Mercy Iowa City, the Iowa City VA Health Care System and Johnson County Homeland Security & Emergency Management Agency will train from 8 a.m. to noon at the Iowa City Municipal Airport, 1801 Riverside Dr.
Wilson said the local agencies train annually to ensure they are ready for hazardous events.
'This exercise will test mass casualty management, fire suppression on Jet A fuels, mass fatality management and incident command functions, which are part of on-scene activities and the focus for the exercise this year,” Wilson said in a statement.
