Iowa Medical and Classification Center inmate accused of prison assault

CORALVILLE - An Iowa Medical and Classification Center inmate is accused of attacking someone with a padlock inside a sock.
According to a Coralville police complaint, an officer was contacted by prison officials about an assault there on March 6, 2015 around 7:45 p.m. Police said an investigation into the assault showed that 24-year-old Rico Osby placed a padlock in a sock and hit the victim in the head and face three times. Osby then dropped his makeshift weapon and chased after the victim. Police said Osby attacked the victim with his fists until he was taken into custody by correctional officers.
The victim suffered injuries that required treatment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Osby - who is serving a 35-year sentence for attempted murder out of Polk County - has been arrested and faces one count of willful injury causing bodily injury, a Class D felony punishable by five years in prison.
