IOWA CITY - An Iowa City woman faces prison time for allegedly assaulting a woman and a juvenile inside an apartment.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 12:27 a.m. Tuesday, 30-year-old Mia S. Jones went to an apartment unit at 1100 Arthur St., knocked on the door and then made her way inside. Police said Jones assaulted two people inside the apartment - an adult woman and a juvenile.
The adult victim suffered bite marks on her thumb and thigh and the juvenile suffered a cut, police said.
Police said Jones - who lives in the same apartment complex - left her 11-year-old and 3-month-old children alone to commit the assault. After she was arrested, police said Jones refused to provide officers with the children's names or birth dates and was unable to help them in finding someone to look after her children.
Jones faces charges of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; two counts of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor; and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 29 years in prison.
