IOWA CITY - An Iowa City family counselor faces prison time for an alleged sexual relationship with one of his clients.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, earlier this month, an investigator met with a woman who said she was being billed by her therapist, 76-year-old Charles M. Adams, while she was also 'engaging in sexual contact” with him.
Police spoke with Adams, a therapist at Adams & Baumbach Associates, who admitted to having sexual contact with his client dating back to March 2015.
'(Adams) admitted he knew he should not have done this and he knew he would face consequences for what he had done,” a criminal complaint reads.
One of those consequences is one count of sexual exploitation by counselor or therapist, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
