Jul. 20, 2016 7:38 pm
IOWA CITY - A handgun and more than 60 rounds of ammunition were found at an Iowa City home following a shooting investigation earlier this week.
According to a search warrant filed Monday, police found a 9 mm HiPoint handgun at a home in the 1200 block of Esther Street - to where D'Anthony D. Money, 29, fled after firing shots in the area of 1100 Arthur St., police said.
Officers also found a Louis Vuitton box containing 42 rounds of 9 mm ammunition in a closet in the home and 24 more rounds of 9 mm ammunition in a shed on the property. The gun was also found in the shed.
Money initially was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court for a probation revocation, and later arrested on charges of going armed with intent and possession of a firearm as a felon in connection with the shooting.
Details of the early Monday shooting were outlined in a search warrant affidavit.
Police responded to 1100 Arthur St. - the Town & Campus Apartments - about 1:30 a.m. Monday after receiving reports of shots fired. According to court documents, one person was taken to the hospital for injuries he suffered running from the shooter.
The affidavit said police spoke with a resident who said he was sitting outside the complex with three men when they were approached by two other men, one of whom was later determined to be Money.
The man told police that the two who approached them were looking for someone named Don, but that he and his friends didn't know who that was, court documents show.
At that point, one of the two men 'pulled up his shirt to show them he had a gun,” the affidavit states. The two men drove off in a Chevrolet Impala and pulled around behind a trash bin and bushes.
Money got out and fired toward the four men, investigators said.
A woman told police the shooting was likely related to an earlier fight at South Side Liquor & Tobacco, 601 Hollywood Blvd., records show.
The fight involved several people including Money's sister, the woman told investigators.
The woman said she began receiving threats shortly after the fight.
Iowa City police Sgt. Scott Gaarde said Wednesday no additional charges are likely in the shooting investigation.
Going armed with intent and possession of a firearm as a felon are both Class D felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.
