IOWA CITY - A sex offender accused of violating his parole when he was found with child pornography on his computer earlier this year now faces additional charges.
According to the Iowa Department of Corrections and Iowa City police criminal complaints, a parole officer was notified back in September by a computer monitoring software company that 30-year-old Joshua F. Stevens - a parolee on a special sentence parole for sexual exploitation of a minor - could be engaging in criminal activity on his computer.
Police said a search warrant was filed at Stevens' home at 639 S. Lucas St. and investigators discovered 'thousands of images of children.”
'Many of those were overtly sexual in nature,” the criminal complaint reads.
Images were found on Stevens' laptop and on three flash drives, police said. He now faces four counts of possession of a medium depicting the exploitation of a minor, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Stevens had originally been arrested in September for a parole violation.
