IOWA CITY - Iowa City police are investigating a reported armed robbery.
According to police, officers were called to the 600 block of South Gilbert Street around 8:10 p.m. Monday for a report of an armed robbery. A woman there told police she was in the parking lot at 625 S. Gilbert St. when a tan minivan pulled into the lot and a man hopped out of the driver's side sliding door.
The woman told police the man pointed a black handgun at her and demanded cash. When she told the man she had no money, he got back in the van, which sped out of the parking lot.
Police said the suspect was described as being 'college-aged,” approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black basketball shorts, police said.
The woman was not hurt in the incident and police were unable to locate the van. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 358-8477.
