IOWA CITY - A man who has served the Iowa City Police Department in varying capacities for 50 years is being recognized next week.
Dave Harris is to be honored during Iowa City's annual Employee Service Awards on Friday, March 31.
Harris started with the city as a radio operator before becoming a police officer. He retired as a sergeant in 1985.
After his retirement, Harris was rehired as a civilian radio dispatcher. In 1991, he became a community service officer and remains in that role in the police department's evidence division.
'Dave is incredibly dedicated to this department,” Chief Jody Matherly said in a statement. 'This is an amazing accomplishment. We appreciate all he has and continues to do for our organization.”
