Iowa City police, DHS investigating shooting

IOWA CITY - The Iowa City Police Department and Department of Human Services are investigating a weekend shooting involving a juvenile victim.
Iowa City police were called to Mercy Hospital at 7:44 p.m. Sunday for a report of a juvenile who had suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. Responding officers determined the 10-year-old boy had been shot in his lower leg. His injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.
Police determined the shooting happened at a residence in the city. Officers went to the residence and recovered the gun used in the shooting.
The shooting has been described as an 'isolated incident” by police, who say there is no threat to the general public. The police department and DHS are continuing to investigate.
